A Subtle Hint

If you aren’t subscribed to my monthly newsletter yet, you might want to do that. I’m pretty excited about my upcoming August promotion, and I’d hate for any locals to miss out. You can either use the link on my blog, or sign up on my Facebook page (and give me a like while you’re at it).

We now return to your regularly scheduled blogging.

January Sale with Bonus Fun

For the month of January my massage packages are an extra 5% off! Massage is a great way to jumpstart your self-care routine in 2015, and this is a great price. The regular prices are listed on my website.

Now for the bonus fun portion: I am on Instagram! As some of you know, when the wrist pain started I had to quit endurance cycling (for now). So I took up running and had to quit because of joint pain (for now). I went back to taking daily walks, and that’s been pretty nice.

Now that it’s really, really winter here in Chicago I thought it might be extra motivation for me to get out there if I’m documenting my walks in some way. So I pledge to add at least one photo on Instagram per daily walk. If you want to check it out I’m “wellnessadventuring”.

I hope that those of you who are also enduring the deep freeze are finding adventures of your own!

Party for a Cause!

As some of you already know, the Heartwood Foundation’s Women & Cancer Program is a cause very dear to my heart. It’s the program that made me first consider joining Heartwood Center in the first place (best decision ever, FYI). Heartwood Foundation provides free services and classes to low-income women all over the Chicago-land area.

Funding for programs like this is getting harder and harder to come by. And they are so important, because everyone deserves to have access to complementary medical care during cancer treatment.

The good news is: you can help support Heartwood Foundation and have a great time doing it! On May 3rd, 2014 Heartwood Foundation is having their annual benefit at the Heartwood Center. Tickets are $50.00 and you can buy them here, at the door, from the Heartwood Center office, or even from me. As an added bonus, I’m planning to make my (in)famous raw fruit tartlets to serve.

And if that isn’t bonus enough: I am giving anyone who buys a ticket $10.00 off any massage or MLD session with me. Just take a picture of your ticket and/or come say hi to me at the benefit. I’ll be the one having lots of fun while dancing very poorly.

I hope to see some of you there!

March MLDness

A few weeks back I wrote about my upcoming promotional offer, and shamelessly plugged my newsletter. That email went out on March 10th, so for those of you who missed it (and for the curious who didn’t miss it, per se) here’s the offer:

From now through April 11, 2014, get 15 minutes of free Manual Lymphatic Drainage added on to a 60 or 90 minute massage. All you have to do is mention this offer when booking the appointment.

Ta da! MLD for everybody (except for anybody with certain health conditions, like untreated congestive heart failure).

Here’s a quick reminder of the general effects of MLD:

  • It decongests tissues; ┬áby increasing the uptake of fluid into the lymphatic system
  • It’s soothing; the gentle strokes promote a parasympathetic response
  • It’s analgesic; the nociceptive substances get pulled away from your tissues with the fluid
  • It can move fluid out of blocked areas (as in lymphedema management)

Even a 15 minute treatment to the neck is going to deliver some of these effects. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: MLD is one of my favorite modalities to receive. In fact, on the day I wrote this post I had a treatment to my neck and right arm to reduce the wrist pain flare-up I’m currently experiencing. It knocked my pain down from an 8-9/10 with certain movements down to a 5/10. That’s an excellent result!
