Autumn in the Prairie

Winnemac Park is one of my favorite parks in the city. The little patches of prairie are a peaceful oasis on the north side. I try to get there at least once a month.

Recently I was on my way to get some new running gear when I cut through Winnemac Park to get to Lincoln Square. It was a gorgeous fall day and I wasn’t in any real hurry. Adventure time!

Unfortunately, I only had my phone because I wasn’t planning on having an adventure that day (the best ones are mostly spontaneous anyway).

For the second installment in Everyday Adventures I present:

Autumn in the Prairie

I love the almost desperate beauty of the flowers against the dying plants. It’s a final burst of life before the long sleep of winter.

The sky was the beautiful cerulean blue that we almost never see outside of October.

It’s so easy to get caught up in our everyday life and forget about the beauty that surrounds us. It’s so precious to take a little time out and really appreciate the fun and adventure that’s waiting just out the front door.*

*I have one final image to really demonstrate the fun of a piece of wild beauty within the city. To spoil the illusion I tried to create of being in a faraway place.

It's good for the prairie to burn, unless it's in a busy city park!
